THE FALL OF SINGAPORE
The Fall of Singapore is possibly the greatest defeat in the history of the British Army. Singapore is an island that rests on the southern part of the Malay Peninsula. It was a very important part of the British Empire. The Japanese army was not an army that could be easily defeated. They demonstrated their strength and capability to the world in this battle. The British believed that the Japanese had no chance on defeating them on their military grounds and were very arrogant about the situation, but the Japanese soon proved them wrong.
The Japanese had landed in the north-west of the island on February 8 and in approximately six days arrived at Singapore began to attack. The air forces were superior in the Japanese army and that worked towards their advantage. The British army in no way was as prepared in air forces as the Japanese. Despite the incredible Japanese Air Force, the British army did outnumber the Japanese.
The battle continued on and even though the amount of soldiers outnumbered the Japanese, there weaponry certainly did not. The Japanese were trained more than The British army residing at that specific army base and were more prepared with weaponry and attack tactics. The battle itself doesn't have many records or information, but it was known as the greatest defeat of the British Army.
