THE ATTACK AT PEARL HARBOR
It was 1941 when a memorable bombing took place in Hawaii. This event is known as the Attack on Pearl Harbor. On December 7, 1941 the Japanese launched a surprise attack using their air forces to bomb the US’s naval forces. Only two hours had passed and already about 2,400 Americans have already died. The reason for the attack was because the Japanese grew frustrated and angry at the United States and were tired of trying to negotiate with them. The United States interfered with Japans plans on taking over China. Also, the US stopped sending their resources to Japan and instead, made their greatest effort to aid China. The Japanese hoped to destroy the US naval forces before an actual war was announced. The attack began at approximately 6:00 am. 183 Japanese aircrafts were released during the first round of bombing. At about 8:00 am it was officially announced that Pearl Harbor was being attacked.
Japanese Admiral, Isoroku Yamamoto, is the one who issued the attack. The Japanese did incredible damage to the US naval ships. There were naval ships that were destroyed and it did do damage to the United States weaponry, but the US would still be capable of war. Mainly, the fact that the US aircrafts weren't harmed and there were still some naval ships unharmed, maade it possible for the US to backfire eventually.
This attack caught everyone off guard. It was unexpected and was initiated very well. The Americans were incredibly unprepared and unaware of what was happening. No one had any idea the Japanese would plan such an act, the entire idea was kept under the radar, therefore allowing the attack plan to remain silent. When someone first spotted the air planes in the radar, it was dismissed as American air planes coming from the mainland. Then, it was believed to be a drill. At last, Americans realized the planes weren't american and the attack began to take place. The soldiers did everything they can to load ammunition to start firing back, but the realization of the planes foreignness began a bit too late. Americans remained shocked about the entire situation, but actions would soon take place.
The day after the horrific attack, President Roosevelt made a famous speech and labeled the day of the attack “a date which will live in infamy.” That same day, Congress voted for war against Japan unanimously. There was no doubt that the United States wouldn't strike back. this bombing upset so many Americans, that without question, America was ready for war. The declaration of war against Japan didn't necessarily fully involve the US in World War 2. Approximately, three days after the attack, Italy and Germany declared war against the US. That, officially stated the US was now involved in World War 2.
